Submit a statement of interest (3-5 sentences describing your project) to PTEF@PerrySchools.org

You will be invited to schedule a brief planning session with the Service-Learning program chairs, Rosemarie Kuntz and Jo Ellen Buffie.

Pending the outcome of the planning session, you will be invited to submit a formal application.

Service Learning Endowment
The Perry Township Education Foundation is calling for grant proposals in the area of Service Learning. This opportunity is available, thanks to the generosity of Rosemarie Kuntz and Bill and Jo Ellen Buffie. This grant will support service learning opportunities and must impact positively on students, support the creative service-learning teaching strategy of curriculum-based projects that incorporate real-life problem-solving within the community; and contribute directly to improved student achievement. Service Learning Teacher Grants will be considered up to $500. Statements of Interest to the Foundation office are on a rolling submission.

About Service Learning:
Service learning is an innovative teaching and learning method that integrates community activities into academic curricula. In school-based service learning, community experiences complement classroom studies and enable students to reflect and take action in addressing community needs. Service learning is not a one-time volunteer experience; rather, it’s a planned academic strategy that involves student experiences in significant age-appropriate challenges and tasks that require initiative and problem-solving. A successful service-learning experience should engage young people in responsible and challenging actions for the common good. When young people have a role in improving society, then they understand the concept of democracy.
About our Donors:
Rosemarie is a retired Perry Meridian High School teacher, whose leadership in integrating service learning into courses led to the school’s recognition as a National Leader School in service learning in 2002. Jo Ellen is a PMHS parent and township community partner who was active in-service learning from 1992-2011, and who served two years as president of the Perry Township Service-Learning Advisory Board.
